The Stihl 042 chainsaw model was released in 1976 and was the first saw to have an AV (anti-vibration) system. A radical health and safety improvement. At this time, the dangers of tissue necrosis, carpal tunnel syndrome and repetitive strain injury (RSI) were not especially well documented or known.
